Anyone thinking about dental implants, and how this amazing part of dentistry may benefit you should consider a few important points about dental implants first. The first stage when having dental implant treatment is to have a thorough implant assessment with your dental implant surgeon. One needs to make sure that the procedure itself is possible, given that we have some medical or dental complications that may affect dental implant treatment. Dental implants have been shown to be successful in 95% of cases however they are prone to fail more commonly in some instances where certain medical or dental conditions exist.
It is crucial to determine first if you are a good candidate for this procedure before actually undertaking it. Growing children who don’t have a fully developed set of teeth yet are not recommended for dental implants. Dental implants in children is contraindicated as the implants will not adjust to the growing jaw. This could hinder the normal development of the jaw bone and have long term consequences.
Risk Factors about dental implants which may affect the success of treatment.
Most adults are good candidates for dental implants however if you have one of the following you may be at a higher risk of dental implant failure:
- diabetes
- osteoporosis
- heavy smoking
- poor oral hygiene
- neglected gum disease
- very limited bone volume
- existing dental/bone infections of the jaw
- some metabolic disorders
- inability to brush teeth effectively due to disability
At Brighton Implant Clinic our dentists are experienced to understand and accurately assess each case individually. During the FREE dental implant assessment, the dental implants procedure is carefully explained. If you are at a higher risk of dental implant failure this will be outlined to you. If you are not a suitable dental implant candidate then we may be able to help you with another alternative
Further facts about dental implants.
Treatment usually takes a minimum of three stages.
- The first stage usually involves the placement of the dental implant itself. This procedure is usually undertaken under local anesthetic although the surgery can be carried out under intravenous sedation. After the surgery has taken place it will be very important to follow the post-operative instructions carefully. Keeping the surgery area clean from plaque and food debris will also be an important factor for implant integration.
- The second stage involves taking impressions of the healed implant. The healing period for a dental implant to fuse with the jaw bone usually takes about 3-4 months. During this time the bone actually grows onto the titanium surface of the implant. This process is called osseo-integration.
- The third stage is when the implant restoration is secured onto the dental implants. This usually is the final stage of the implant process.
If you have been wearing dentures for a long time and you would like to be ‘denture free’ then dental implants are the answer. Dental implants are fused to the jaw bone so they look and feel like natural teeth. No more dentures moving around while speaking or eating. Dental implants are the most advanced fixed teeth solution available today. Why not give us a call and find out more about dental implants.

Joanne Cowper says:
Hi Angela, thank you for your enquiry. The best thing to do would be to organise a free consultation at one of our three branches and from here the dentist can take the necessary X-Rays, carry out a full assessment and discuss the different options of treatment with you. The dentist can then provide a Treatment Plan detailing the breakdown of appointments and prices for the recommended course of treatment. It would also be advised to consult with your doctor and the dentist before undergoing treatment.

Bruno Silva says:
Hi Deborah, thanks for your inquiry. Normally a healing period of 3-6 months is recommended after tooth extraction. During this time new bone is able to form into the area where the tooth was removed. This new bone will provide a good foundation for the new implant. A ct scan will provide accurate information as to how much bone has formed during the healing period. If you do require any further information please feel free to contact our clinic

Mrs Pam Farman says:
I would like to know what the maximum cost would be for one dental implant upper back. I had a bit of a traumatic experience with my dentist when a tooth whitening mould weakened my tooth and it eventually sheared off. He informed me the only thing I could do was have an implant. I am a pensioner so have a tight budget and the cost here in Norfolk seems to be on average £3,000. I know I would have a long way to travel, but if I could get an implant at a reasonable price I would be prepared to do this. Could you help me please.

Joanne Cowper says:
Hi Pam, thank you for your enquiry.
When it comes to replacing molars in the upper with dental implants the price can vary depending on the position of the tooth and the volume of bone in that area of the jaw. With the molar teeth in some cases the tooth would need to be extracted and you would need to wait around three to four months for the bone and gum to heal before having a CT scan taken to assess for dental implant treatment. This scan provides a 3D digital image which allows the dentist to measure the volume and density of the bone in the jaw.
Here at the Brighton Implant Clinic We start our prices for dental implants at £995 per implant. This price includes the dental implant itself, the standard abutment and the final cement retained crown. The additional costs you would expect would be £95 for the CT scan and the dentist may recommend having a different fixture of crown which could cost an additional £100. We would charge separately for additional treatments such as tooth extraction (£45 per tooth), bone grafting (£195-£475) and for sedation (£125) if required. Therefore a guideline of the costs for the treatment you mentioned could range from £1090 to £1835.
Please contact one of our clinics to book a free dental implant consultation. During this appointment one of our dentists can take the necessary X-Rays and carry out a full assessment in order to provide you with a Treatment Plan for the recommended course of treatment with the prices.

Whilst having treatment and waiting for gum to heal, will i be left toothless, or can they fit something Until ready to have implant
Warning: Undefined array key 180 in /home/p7bycpziqnt4/public_html/blog.brightonimplantclinic.co.uk/wp-content/themes/brighton/functions.php on line 342
Joanne Cowper says:
Hi Carol, thank you for your enquiry.
Once an implant is placed we generally recommend to wait around four months to allow the gum to heal and the bone to integrate with the implant before the final implant crown is fitted. During this time if the primary stability of the implant is good then a temporary crown can be made and fitted onto the implant on the same day, so that you will not leave the clinic with a gap. Alternatively a partial denture can be made to wear during the healing period before the final implant crown is fitted.
If you wpuld like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the clinic.

Southwest Dental Group says:
Modern advances in materials have made the contraindications much less. Smoking, etc used to be reasons to absolutely not place any dental implants. Now, with smoking, etc the risk of failure is still higher than a non-smoker, but they are still placed. Most dental implant procedures do involve 3 stages like to blog says, and from the comments I see the frustration with people having to go without a tooth or teeth for at least 1 year for all these stages to occur. That’s why the All on four procedure is so good and groundbreaking…you have teeth the same day. This is called immediate loading, we put restorations on the implants the same day.

Dear Carlclark
Thank you for your message. The price of implants can vary greatly between clinics and also between different countries. I always recommend patients that they seek a dental surgeon who has experience in dental implants. Ideally it is best to see someone who is dedicate to doing implants on a full time basis as naturally one attains greater amount of experience. Price is certainly not the only factor to consider when having dental implant treatment. More importantly is the experience and expertise of the dentist who is completing the treatment. Dental implant treatment is a safe and highly predictable treatment option but sometimes problems or failures do arise. It is in these situations that you would want to be with an experienced clinician to deal with such problems ( hopefully they do not arise in the first place ) If you needed any further advice please do let me know
Kind regards
Bruno
