Dr Alberto Saez Garcia

Dr Alberto Saez Garcia, an implantologist at the Brighton Implant Clinic in Halisham, recently completed the theory portion of his Certificate in Advanced Implantology and Periodontics from the New York University College of Dentistry. The 2-year part-time certificate programme is designed to meet the educational needs of busy, practicing dentists who want to learn from a group of experts in their field.

After completing his final exam in implant dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeonslast year, Dr Saez Garcia decided there was still more he wanted to learn about implants. “The constant training and updating in this exciting field means we can use newer, less invasive techniques, and continue to pursue excellence in treatments for our patients.”

The faculty for the training programme was carefully selected from all around the world for their teaching and communication skills, as well as their clinical or research expertise and experience.“The speakers involved were world-class and there was a lot to learn from them. As the group was quite small we had the chance to talk to the speakers and to debate our own cases with them.”

The Halisham-based dentist spent four weeks in New York attending lectures and visiting some of the most renowned dental practices in New York City. “I believe the course has been great as I have seen and worked alongside over 30 top-class practitioners, who you always learn from.”

Dr Saez Garcia finished the practical portion of his programme at the University of Madrid in April 2018. This six month-long, hands-on part of the course focussed on soft tissue grafting, a procedure used to treat gum recession. When the gums recede the roots of the teeth can become exposed, causing discomfort when eating hot or cold foods. Soft tissue grafting can stop this from happening, as well as prevent further tissue and bone loss. It improves both the gum health and appearance.

Dr Saez Garcia said of the practical training portion of the course, “It was great to practice some of the newest soft tissue grafting techniques I had learned and to be able to see the results over this period of time, and to then be able to use these skills with my patients.”

Dr Saez Garcia will make his case presentations and submit his final research work to complete the programme later this year. As much as he enjoys his studies he’s looking forward to having more time to spend with his wife and 3-year-old daughter. “I have been constantly studying implant dentistry since 2010. I’m looking forward to completing the course and taking a little break from studying, coursework, case presentations, etc.,” said Dr Saez Garcia.

“Completing this training is a sign of Alberto’s commitment to professional growth and development,” said Dr Bruno Silva, founder and principal dentist of the Brighton Implant Clinic.

Dr Saez Garcia is originally from Valencia. He first left Spain to practice in Enniskillen, Ireland, where he spent 6 years before returning home as a visiting professor at the Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio in Madrid. He joined the team at the Halisham clinic in June 2017.

The Brighton Implant Clinic provides personalised and affordable dental care, including dental implants, root canal treatments, invisible braces and cosmetic dentistry. Dr Bruno Silva established the clinic in Hove in 2009. It now has four convenient locations – Hove, Brighton, Worthing and Hailsham.
